About This Project

In 2026, a group of Master of Speech Pathology students had a dream: make gender-affirming voice resources accessible, trustworthy and FREE. We know that accessing gender-affirming speech pathology services in Australia takes time, money and effort, and we wanted to do our part in providing equitable access to speech pathology services.

Following a grant from the University of Melbourne’s Student Services and Amenities Fund, we got to work. We recruited a focus group of transgender and gender diverse students to provide essential lived experience, delved into the research and put together our first draft.

Between university placements and assignments, we finalised our written and video content, learned how to build a website, and hosted our in-person launch party, where our contributors and trans students could celebrate, meet one another and practice some vocal exercises with supervision from the team.

We are so thrilled to have finished this project, but we also know there is so much more work to do. We look forward to seeing how future students adapt and update this work.

A note on terminology

Wherever possible, we have endeavoured to use non-gendered language to describe individuals’ bodies and the outcomes of voice exercises, rather opting to describe the specific aspect the exercises is targeting. Reference to hormones and the effect on voice was necessary to discuss, and consultation with our focus group was conducted to decide on the most acceptable way to do so. When referencing existing literature, the citations were kept as-is, though we acknowledge that they may contain terms which are considered offensive.

If you have concerns about the language used here, please contact us and we would be happy to discuss this with you. If any of the content contained on this website causes you distress, we urge you to to contact one of the helplines listed below:
